Dhaka, Feb 12 (bdnews24.com) – An estimated 22 million under-five children have been vaccinated against polio.
As many as 18 million children, between two and five years of age, were also given one de-worming tablet each under the second round of the 19th National Immunisation Day on Saturday.
Expanded Programme of Immunisation (EPI) conducted the nationwide campaign from 8am to 4pm. Health activists and volunteers administered the vaccines and tablets from EPI’s 140,000 outposts across the country.
EPI carries out the campaign every year to uphold the polio-free status of Bangladesh, which is at risk because of India, as the close-door neighbour is not free from the contagious disease.
