Flu vaccine does not reduce risk of severe complications

Editor’s note: For your information, food consumer is the first to report the study.

Italian researchers have discovered that the influenza vaccine does NOT reduce risk of severe complications from influenza viral infections that result in hospital death, influenza or pneumonia admission among the elderly population.

The finding came after Manzoli L. and colleagues from the University G. d’Annunzio of Chieti in Italy examined data from 32,457 elderly people, of whom 66.2 percent received the influenza vaccine.

According to a recent review, almost all flu vaccine trials, with the exception of one out of 49 of said trials, have not compared the incidence of flu in the vaccinated population with that in those unvaccinated.

Rather, subjects who received flu shots in influenza vaccine trials were only tested for antigens which were produced in response to flu vaccine. When a flu vaccine generated certain levels of antigens as defined by researchers, the vaccine maker claimed that the flu vaccine worked to prevent flu.

What is Wrong with the Gardasil Girls: Kahlia’s Story

SEO Press Releases

North Hollywood, CA, September 13, 2010 — Norma Erickson, journalist for Examiner.com recently wrote an article about a 17 year-old from New Zealand adversely affected by Gardasil. Kahlia spent 2009 as a rotary exchange student in the United States as an active teen and an ambassador for her country. She had dreams and goals just like any adolescent girl her age. Those dreams came to a halt when Kahlia returned to New Zealand and had her first Gardasil injection.

A month later she was in the hospital. Just like other girls adversely affected by Gardasil, Kahlia had to withdraw from school. Her story is below:

On January 27, 2010, I had my first vaccination against cervical cancer. I started to experience headaches and nausea, which I did not relate to the vaccine at first. Over the next three weeks, I experienced uncontrollable mood swings, fatigue, insomnia, and clumsiness. I passed out a week before I was hospitalized.

On the night of February 27, I was hospitalized with tight, stabbing chest pains, shortness of breath, and headaches. My left leg had started spasming and I had a heavy feeling on my left side. After X-rays, ECG and blood tests all came back clear, I was sent home.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To assess the relation between two risk factors for cervical neoplasia: smoking and infection with oncogenic human papillomavirus. It has been suggested that smoking causes a local immunological defect, which could facilitate the infection and persistence of human papillomavirus.

DESIGN: Cross sectional epidemiological study. Completion of a structured questionnaire by the patients, analysis of cervical scrapes for human papillomavirus, and morphological examination of biopsy specimens.

SETTING: Outpatient gynaecological clinic.

SUBJECTS: 181 women with a report of cervical cytological abnormality.

MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Prevalence of infection with oncogenic human papillomavirus and smoking habits.

Safety and Immunogenicity of the Quadrivalent Human Papillomavirus Vaccine in HIV-1-Infected Men.

Abstract
Background. Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1)-infected men are at increased risk for anal cancer. Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination may prevent anal cancer caused by vaccine types. Methods. AIDS Malignancy Consortium Protocol 052 is a single-arm, open-label, multicenter clinical trial to assess the safety and immunogenicity of the quadrivalent HPV (types 6, 11, 16, and 18) vaccine in HIV-1-infected men. Men with high-grade anal intraepithelial neoplasia or anal cancer by history or by screening cytology or histology were excluded. Men received 0.5 mL intramuscularly at entry, week 8, and week 24. The primary end points were seroconversion to vaccine types at week 28, in men who were seronegative and without anal infection with the relevant HPV type at entry, and grade 3 or higher adverse events related to vaccination. Results. There were no grade 3 or greater adverse events attributable to vaccination among the 109 men who received at least 1 vaccine dose. Seroconversion was observed for all 4 types: type 6 (59 [98%] of 60), type 11 (67 [99%] of 68), type 16 (62 [100%] of 62), and type 18 (74 [95%] of 78). No adverse effects on CD4 counts and plasma HIV-1 RNA levels were observed. Conclusions. The quadrivalent HPV vaccine appears safe and highly immunogenic in HIV-1-infected men. Efficacy studies in HIV-1-infected men are warranted. Clinical trials registration. NCT 00513526 .

Abstract

Background: The aim of this multicentric study was to identify human papillomavirus (HPV) type distribution in invasive cervical cancer and high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia 2/3 (CIN2/3) in Italy.

Methods: Cases were sampled through the electronic databases at the pathology units of eight centers in six regions from central and southern Italy. HPV types were detected from paraffin-embedded tissue samples and cervical specimens through amplification of HPV DNA with GP5+/GP6+ primers, followed by genotyping with reverse line blot (RLB). Untyped HPV-positive samples were sequenced. HPV-negative samples underwent nested PCR, followed by either RLB or sequencing. Finally, the remaining HPV-negative samples were amplified with primers targeting the virus E6 to E7 regions.
