The Finnish government and major insurance companies announced Wednesday they will pay for lifetime medical care for children diagnosed with narcolepsy after receiving the swine flu vaccine.
“The compensation will provide much-needed financial assistance for the families, although it cannot take away the emotional distress caused by this condition,” Social Services and Health MinisterPaula Risikko said in a statement.
Finnish and international researchers recently found a conclusive link between the Pandemrix swine flu vaccine and new cases of narcolepsy, a chronic nervous system disorder which causes people to often uncontrollably fall asleep.

The Norwegian health authorities were forced to admit the connection between Pandemrix and narcolepsy after the Finnish athorities had done so. Now the Norwegian authorities have typically changed their minds and state that more studies are necessary before the connection can be made. Typically, they use every opportunity to avoid paying compensation for vaccine injuries. Possibility for payment is always minimal, takes many years of discussion and if anything at all is paid the amount is pathetically small. As usual the situation is unfortunately that many sufferers and their carers will instead be propped full of psychiatric medicines.
