The nationwide HPV vaccination campaign is now underway, and will help protect more than 57,000 schoolgirls from developing cervical cancer as adults.
The vaccine – Gardasil – is free of charge and is being offered to all girls attending first and second year of second level schools.
In Ireland, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer in the country among females aged 15 to 44. HPV or Human Papillomavirus, is proven to cause cervical cancer. It is a common virus – about 80% of people will have a HPV infection during their lifetime.
Even though it will take time for the impact of the vaccination programme to be seen, this vaccine will help protect the future health of this generation of young girls, and the generations to come.
According to the HSE, “‘Gardasil is a safe and fully tested vaccine which protects against the main cancer-causing strains of the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) and will eventually save around 60 lives in Ireland every year. Around 250 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer here annually, with around 80 deaths. The HPV vaccine will prevent at least 70% of these cases.”
“Informed consent is a critical element of any vaccination campaign, and all parents should be informed about the vaccine their daughters will receive – information that comes from verifiable, credible and unbiased sources. ”
“All parents of girls who are getting the vaccine are given a detailed information booklet and consent form from the HSE. We also encourage all parents to visit our website www.hpv.ie, where they can read all about HPV and the vaccine, and see many links to international scientific information and evidence about the value and safety of this vaccine. We have seen a high uptake of the vaccine so far in Ireland and are confident that this will continue with the girls starting in September.”

Dear Averil Power,
You were one of the people who voiced your approval for the Gardasil vaccine, I am wondering do you still truly believe the Benefits of this vaccine outweigh the risks given all the reports that are pouring in on a daily basis regarding serious adverse reactions liked to the Gardasil vaccine.
Stories are being reported from around the world of deaths and serious adverse effects now being linked to Gardasil.Global concern is mounting among parents in relation to gardasil. We in Ireland have an opportunity to learn from all the suffering and heartache that is being experience around the world by withdrawing this vaccine programme now. By taking this action we are keeping our precious children safe from harm. Have you researched the ingredients in Gardasil ? Polysorbate 80:linked to infertility in mice, Aluminum: research shows it causes neurological damage, sodium borate; is classed as a poison
“An error only becomes a mistake when we refuse to correct it” We seem to live in a culture where no one is prepared to stand up for children, cover up seems to be the order of the day. How we all voiced our anger and disappointment at the church when they covered up instead of speaking up, and here we go again, something is being revealed to us and we are choosing to cover it up.
Every other day a committee is set up to investigate when money is involved. It appears to me we have devalued life. The safety and efficacy of Gardasil needs to be investigated now, before any more precious children are harmed.
If I appear desperate it is because I am, I am Desperate to find someone in Authority who will be that Voice for our precious children. If this was your child wouldn’t you like someone to do that for you. Parents have given their consent for their children to have this vaccine unaware of the controversy surrounding it.
I thank the Irish Examiner and Jennifer Hough for doing their part in bringing this information into the public domain, this is the link it was on the front page and also a full page on page 8

You are advising young girls to have this vaccine and not informing them about the concerns from parents of injured girls and some within the medical model, regarding the safety and efficacy of this vaccine. Maybe you are not aware of all the concerns that are being expressed. I feel it is only fair that they have all the information before they make such an important decision. I am now passing some of the sources of that information on to you, so you will in turn be able to pass it on to them. If I can be of help to you regarding any of the above please feel free to contact me.
