NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Health departments had a difficult time ordering enough flu vaccinations for the demand during the 2009-2010 season, but this year there’s a surplus of the immunizations sitting on the shelves.
Ordering the flu vaccine is a guessing game, and this year it didn’t go quite as planned. They paid $93,000 to be prepared, but have only given 5,261 vaccinations so far – compared to 13,430 vaccines last year.
“We want to see it go off the shelves at a much faster rate than it is,” said Betty Jo Bennett, public health nurse supervisor.
