This is Mickayla, a dedicated student, defender of those who are picked on, and my only daughter. She is my little make-up artist with dreams of living and working in New York City. Mickayla is a small town girl with visions of big city lights and a bright future.
I am a hospice nurse. My job is to care for the terminally ill. As a matter of fact, one of my very dear friends is currently experiencing the ravages of terminal cervical cancer. Obviously, I feel it extremely important to do everything in my power to protect my only daughter from this disease. Using a vaccine to prevent cervical cancer seemed to be a logical way to make the job of protecting my daughter a little easier. We made the decision to take advantage of the opportunity.
Unfortunately for my daughter, that was the wrong decision. Since that day, our lives have been turned upside-down.
My 15 year old was inoculated with Gardasil on December 29, 2011. On January 28, 2012, Mickayla was diagnosed with shingles. I told her provider that the only thing that was different in her internal or external environment was the Gardasil shot. The provider said it wasn’t connected.
February 29, 2012, she received her second Gardasil injection. By the end of March, Mickayla was experiencing hives that came and went on a daily basis. Sometimes, they covered her entire body. I kept thinking they would go away; but they just kept getting worse. We removed all scented products from her environment.
June 2012, we went back to the provider because the hives were still a problem. Both Mickayla and I told the provider that we were concerned Gardasil may be the problem. It was the only new thing in her environment. Her provider told us to “stop being anxious.” She said, “Don’t look on the internet; this is most likely nothing.” She referred us to an allergy specialist.
The specialist did 60 skin tests and drew blood to try and find a cause. Everything came back normal. He put her on Allegra and Zertec. He stated that it was unlikely Gardasil was the cause because the symptoms did not appear for weeks after the injections. He said that if the reaction had occurred sooner, that it might be an allergic reaction; but since it took so long there was most likely no connection. He said she had “unstable mast cells” that were just releasing histamine and said it is not uncommon.
He also recommended that Mickayla go ahead and take the third shot in the Gardasil series because she had “come this far” and he felt she needed to be protected. Having been reassured that Gardasil had nothing to do with Mickayla’s new medical conditions, she received the third injection of Gardasil on July 11, 2012.
By the 15th of August, she had to be taken to see her primary physician with worsening hives and wheals (localized areas of edema on the body surface, often attended with severe itching and usually evanescent; it is the typical lesion of urticaria) all over her legs. Over the next few days, they developed into wheals that turned purple in the middle. She was also experiencing joint pain and fatigue. Sometimes, the wheals on her feet hurt so bad that she had a hard time walking. Her allergist prescribed Singulair, Allegra, Zertec, and Clariton daily, with hydroxazine at night so she could sleep. Nothing helped.
Finally, Mickayla went on a prednisone taper. The wheals disappeared but the hives persisted. When the taper ended, the wheals came back and the hives are worse than ever.
My daughter has lived with hives, wheals, joint pain and fatigue for the last seven months. She has to get ice packs at school to sooth the pain and itch enough to make it through the day. I wake up every day sick to my stomach, knowing that I have done this to my child. Mickayla had autoimmune urticaria. Her immune system is damaged, it was reacting to each shot and no one would believe us. The doctors said it was not connected – that she needed the last injection. I listened to them.
I sit on the edge of the bed with Mickayla…I watch her on her computer as she scrolls through pictures of hotels in Times Square. She and I are planning a trip to New York for a cosmetic convention with her aunt for her 16th birthday. She looks at the screen with sparkling eyes. I see her reach up and flick her nails across her skin. She chatters away and the more excited she gets, the more she starts scratching. The hives come and go as I think about the joint pain and fatigue that she has ‘to put up with.’
This is not fair! Our daughters are not science experiments. Gardasil is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ vaccine. I thought my doctors knew about this shot. I thought they understood all the ins and outs, all the potential side effects, how long the vaccine lasted and who should not receive the vaccine. I found out too late that none of them knew anything about Gardasil except that the CDC recommends every girl and boy between the ages of 11 and 26 receive it.
I believe, as health care providers, we have an obligation to be honest about the risks as well as the benefits of Gardasil so people can make truly informed decisions. We need to learn to recognize vaccine reactions so we can treat them properly when they occur. We need to identify who is at risk for adverse reactions. We have an obligation to do no harm.
Personally, I will be doing everything in my power to make sure these things happen.
I did not catch this but wanted to clarify, when this peice says “we took advantage of the oportunity” it means me and Mickayla’s doctor. Mickayla did not want this shot. She hates needles and did not feel it was necessary for her to get it. I remember distinctly just before the first shot when I said to her “this will protect you for the rest of your life.” and the nurse stated “thats right” but thats not right. this vaccine has only been proven to last 5 years. If I knew that one fact I may have never have considered the vaccine for her. And Mickayla is not alone. As parents we are making life long decisions for our children with this vaccine. Not that the vaccine protects them for a life time, but the vaccine can cause damage that can last a life time. Our kids are counting on their goverment and their doctors to protect them by fully informing their parents on how to best care for them.

And here is another story- My friend from England visited India with her 14 year old daughter. she told me how the girls were encouraged at school to take the Gardasil vaccines. Her daughter was not so comfortable with the situation, but did decide to go ahead with the injection. Her daughter is ok, but her school classmate was not so lucky. She is suffering from severe fatigue and has gone from being one of the most athletic girls, to being a sick girl.

I actually got the vaccine not too long ago at the beginning of this year before my Senior Prom. My gyno kind of forced it upon me so I got it. I usually NEVER get vaccines or any shots or take any medicines without researching them. So when I got home I researched the vaccine and was HORRIFIED at what I saw. I prayed and prayed it wouldn’t affect my body negatively. I even reached out to some HPV victims and their mothers. EXCEPT… The peripheral vasculitis associated with allergic reactions as described here is not exactly like the cerebral vasculitis alleged in the paper.
AND… If you actually read and interpret what’s cited in the paper instead of blindly believing what’s said here, especially note the pathologist’s autopsy findings in both cases where you will see that there was NO evidence of cerebral vasculitis seen in the brain tissue examined in either of these two girls! Cerebral vasculitis is extremely easy to identify under the microscope and often can even be seen with the naked eye.

I’m really sorry that this happened to your daughter. My daughter had an extreme reaction to her routine shots as a baby and my pediatrician assured me all the regression and extreme behavior changes were all coincidental in timing. Only the inconsolable wild animal screaming that started 30 mins after the shots was related to the vaccines. Full speed ahead with more vaccines was the route prescribed, and that is pure insanity. Doctors are blind to the damage that they do on behalf of pharmaceutical companies pursuing double digit financial growth. Protection of vaccination programs and uptake rates is a bigger priority than protection of the individuals. Doctors please stop the aggressive vaccination campaigns – especially when previous reactions have occurred!
Dear Jessica, I too trusted the doctor when he told me this vaccine would protect my daughter from cervical cancer. I did not connect the dots when my daughter Jessica started having headaches, muscle aches, fatigue and many more symptoms after her first and second shots. I even took her back to the same doctor who prescribed the vaccine because we wanted to know why she was having so many headaches, some were severe. He told us it was probably stress from being a senior with everything she had going on. Take some Tylenol if she feels a headache coming on. I no longer have my daughter with me and I will forever feel guilty that it is my fault that I did not do some research on Gardasil. I should have never trusted the doctor or the FDA or Merck. Your story is sooo similar to my daughter. She had a bunch of other symptoms but the urticaria started 11 days after her third shot.
It lasted minimum 7 weeks…then was coming and going. Doctors would say it was not related then almost 2 years after she finally saw
a allergist/immunologist and he said her symptoms where related to the Gardasil but unfortunetely we will never know to which ingredient

It’s the yeast. Gardasil was grown in yeast cells. Injecting yeast the first time (along with aluminium) sets up the allergy. Injecting yeast a second time will cause a violent reaction as the antibodies were already created from the first shot. The same thing happens with eggs (many vaccines are grown in chicken eggs), peanut oil, soy oil, and wheat germ oil, which are unlisted ingredients in almost all vaccines. Injecting foreign proteins into the bloodstream is what creates allergies.
Read up on candida, try different treatments and see which works best. Do detox as well as Gardasil contains high levels of aluminium, which creates autoimmune diseases. If you need help, look for biomedical practitioners. Don’t do steroids, it will only further weaken her immune system.
The co-inventor of the technology enabling the HPV vaccines, Ian Frazer, states: “Through sexual activity, most of us will get infected with the genital papillomaviruses that can cause cancer. Fortunately, most of us get rid of them between 12 months to five years later without even knowing we’ve had the infection. Even if the infection persists, only a few individuals accumulate enough genetic mistakes in the virus-infected cell for these to acquire the properties of cancer cells”. (1)
So Ian Frazer has acknowledged that the risk of cancer is very low… I find it astonishing that the HPV vaccine is being pushed upon adolescents around the world. I wonder how many of these young people and their parents are being properly informed of Ian Frazer’s statement above?
