KANPUR: Though the government agencies are spending millions of rupees to fight polio, a couple of instances have surfaced where people had refused get polio drops administered to their children.
In the first incident reported from Naglabhara village in Kannauj district, locals facing shortage of schools and proper roads boycotted the polio campaign on March 30. The village dominated by `dalit’ community lacks even basic amenities.
Therefore, miffed with authorities and their false promises, the enraged villagers refused to get their young ones administered polio vaccine unless the village gets developed.
Hamid Ali, a supervisor, in Naglabhara village in Kannauj, said: “Villagers refused the vaccine during the drive on March 30. We informed the senior officials, including chief medical superintendent, Jairam Singh who rushed to the spot and tried to convince them but in vain.”
