If engineers strive to make a better mousetrap, scientists seek more effective vaccines.
Over the next few months, three of their latest efforts will be tested in Rochester.
The University of Rochester Medical Center is recruiting volunteers to test the first licensed vaccine against norovirus, commonly called a stomach bug.
Rochester Clinical Research in Irondequoit will be testing an enhancement to the flu vaccine and to a vaccine against human papillomavirus, which can cause cervical cancer.
Those involved in testing said that it’s difficult to know when or if these vaccines will be available commercially.
It depends not only on whether the vaccine works but whether it’s also cost-effective.
