[SaneVax: Despite the worldwide controversy surrounding the safety, efficacy and need for HPV vaccines, Trinidad and Tobago have agreed to purchase and use Gardasil in their country. Is this a result of sound decision making, or good marketing?]
The truth about HPV and Gardasil
By Dr. Noel Kalicharan
A few weeks ago, Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan announced that his Ministry will soon be embarking on an aggressive campaign to offer young girls the vaccine Gardasil (from drug manufacturer, Merck) as a protection against “the cancer-causing Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)”. He said that the measure could protect them later in life from cervical, anal and oral cancers. The government will acquire 66,000 vaccines at a cost of US$14.60 each for a total of about TT$6,000,000.
No mention was made of the serious damage and death suffered by thousands of young girls all over the world after taking the fast-tracked Gardasil. We were not told of a recent study published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine which “brings the issue of highly questionable vaccine trial standards to the fore yet again. It’s worth noting that the HPV vaccine was yet another fast-tracked vaccine, which has devastated the lives of thousands of young women and their families since its premature release in the US.”
Dr Khan did not mention that in April 2011, “India called a halt to trials of Gardasil after four young girls died and 120 suffered serious adverse effects. The decision was the result of a civil society-led investigation that highlighted serious ethical violations (e.g. administering the vaccine without permission). In India, civil society groups have long been voicing their concerns regarding the safety and efficacy of the two HPV vaccines, along with the aggressive promotion of the vaccines and the need to investigate reported deaths and adverse events post-vaccination.”
No one mentioned that in February 2011, the US Supreme Court granted drug companies immunity from vaccine-related lawsuits. Vaccines, said the Court, are “unavoidably unsafe”. Wow, a licence to maim and kill! With no liability or accountability for those making, licensing, selling and giving vaccines in America, there are no checks and balances to ensure that vaccines are safe and effective. Enter Gardasil.
One newspaper mentioned two local gynaecologists who were high in praise of this venture. Dr Khan also confirmed that “the Ministry, PAHO and WHO had all properly assessed the issue of vaccine side-effects”. I take it that all these people were getting their “facts” only from those who had vaccines to sell and did not see the report of Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption.
