Member of European Parliament calls for ban on HPV vaccines

December 2, 2013 By Norma 5 Comments

European Parliament

[SaneVax: Michèle RIVASI, Member of the European Parliament, recently put forth a press release calling for a ban on government subsidized HPV vaccines stating, “This unnecessary, dangerous vaccine must be withdrawn!” ]

Press Release

Addis-Abeba, Ethiopia, 26th November 2013

Gardasil: this unnecessary, dangerous vaccine must be withdrawn from the market.

Charges of “involuntary attack on the integrity of an individual” have just been filed against the vaccine manufacturer Sanofi Pasteur and also against the managing director of the French Agence Nationale de Sécurité du Médicament (National Medicines Safety Agency), by Marie-Océane Bourguignon, a young student from Bayonne.  Why?  Because the Gardasil vaccine against cervical cancer (HPV) has triggered very serious adverse effects in this young girl’s central nervous system.  Since the announcement of these charges, other victims suffering from autoimmune diseases after receiving the HPV vaccine have come forth to tell the tragic stories of their afflictions.  Michèle Rivasi responds to this most recent health scandal.

MEP Michèle Rivasi (European Green Party) highlights the extent of the problems caused by the HPV vaccine in both France and Europe:

“Back in 2007, both Spain (1) and Germany (2) were already critical of the launch of this medicine, which could only claim 17% effectiveness, on the market.  Then in September 2012, we learned that a 13-year-old girl in Gijón, Spain, had died after receiving this vaccine.  A large number of victims in the USA have filed charges against the manufacturer and girls there have also died.

Considering the absence of reliable data on Gardasil’s effectiveness and its benefit/risk ratio (pharmacovigilance studies actually suggest that the risks outweigh the benefits), does it make sense to continue exposing young girls to the risk of serious adverse effects which could totally destroy their lives?  Why do we want to expose a whole population of healthy young girls to the unnecessary risks of Gardasil when we already have effective methods of prevention: smear tests, contraception and sex education (because remember: this is a sexually-transmissable infection)?  It is therefore essential, in  my opinion, to ask our health professionals to ensure that parents and the young girls eligible for this vaccine receive accurate and full information.  In addition, it is up to the health authorities to create a compensation fund for victims of vaccine adverse effects, to withdraw Gardasil from the vaccine programme and to stop reimbursing its cost.  In this time of budget cuts, we must put and end to unnecessary expenses which erode the budget of the national health system.  It is also time to put an end to all the abusive advertising designed only to make parents feel guilty so that they will vaccinate and line the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies.”
