BEAVER — If things go according to plan, Beaver County residents could be protected from deadly contagious disease outbreaks and other health emergencies simply by taking a drive.
That’s the scenario Beaver County Emergency Services rehearsed Saturday at the emergency services garage facility near Bradys Run Park, where officials set up a mock vaccine dispensation location and gave shots to first responders who agreed to be guinea pigs for the exercise.
The project’s name is Operation Rapid Inject, and the idea is to create what’s effectively a drive-through inoculation station, explained county EMS Coordinator Eric Brewer. People drive up, remain in their cars, go through a quick screening and get an injection or a pill.
If things run smoothly, it’s possible to go through the whole process in as little as 90 seconds per person, he said.
